March 22, 2017: A Major of Pakistan Army, Major Muddassar, was killed, along with the sepoy Mateeullah, while another soldier, Shaukat, was wounded when militants associated with Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) attacked a security check post in Uthman Khel area of Lower Orakzai Agency.
The security forces retaliated and killed five militants, including a high-ranking TTP commander Shah Duran, during the counter attack, said the security sources. Following the incident, a search operation was immediately launched in the area during which several militants were arrested and heavy arms were confiscated from their custody.
It is pertinent to mention here that militants associated with TTP and its splinter groups have intensified their maneuverings in northwestern areas of the country in the recent past as this is the fourth militant attack within the span of two days in the region.
