Dozens of Security Forces Killed in Army Base Attack
Balkh: According to Colonel John Thomas, a spokesman for the U.S. military’s Central Command in Afghanistan, dozens of security forces were killed in an attack on an Afghan military base in Mazar-e-Sharif in Balkh province. Dawlat Waziri, a ministry of defense spokesman said that insurgents wearing army uniforms stormed a military compound in Afghanistan’s northern Balkh province. The siege lasted for five hours. Hekmatyar Expected in Afghanistan in Next few Days: Hizb-e-Islami
Qariburrahman Saeed, the head of the media section of Gulbuddin Hekmatyar’s Hizb-e-Islami said that all the obstacles in the way of Hekmatyar’s return to Afghanistan have been resolved and that he will return in the next few days. Residents of central Uruzgan province held a gathering to voice their support for recent anti-US remarks by former president Hamid Karzai. According to the elders the continued presence of the US on Afghanistan’s soil was not in the interest of the country and the Afghans.
