Nangarhar: The Afghan security forces have arrested a mine planter from a restive district of eastern Nangarhar province. Govt Accelerates Efforts to Digitize Election

Mohammad Arif Shah Jahan Appointed New Governor of Farah
According to a statement from Presidential Palace, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has appointed Mohammad Arif Shah Jahan as the new governor of western Farah province. He was referred to the post of governor by the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG) and the president approved his appointment. Previously he worked as National Directorate of Security (NDS) director in Ghazni province and also remained representative of Ghazni in Wolesi Jirga. Sopko Highlights Major Corruption Cases among Afghan Forces
The Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction, John F. Sopko, at an event in Duke University in the United States made shocking remarks on ‘corruption’ among Afghan forces. He said that the combination of corruption and poor leadership in the security forces in Afghanistan is the root cause for their ‘ineffectiveness’. According to him, “Without question, the top two challenges in Afghanistan are corruption and the lack of capacity of the Afghan security forces. And in many cases, the two go hand in hand”.
