Farid Hamidi, Afghanistan’s Attorney General said that poor performance on the battlefields by Afghan security forces was because of the rampant corruption within these structures. U.S Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Rallying for more Troops
General Joseph Dunford, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staffs of the U.S army, rallied for more troops to Afghanistan, warning that terrorist groups in Afghanistan “have the desire” to attack the West. He said that such a move would help prevent terrorists from executing their plans. He further said that where the attackers planned and executed the attack on 9/11, and there’s about 18 or 19 extremist groups in that region who indicated they had the desire – if not currently the capability – to attack the west, and so our job was to keep pressure on them and preclude that from happening. UNAMA Chief Meets Gulbuddin Hekmatyar
Tadamichi Yamamoto, the Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and Head of United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), held an introductory meeting in Kabul with Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, the leader of Hizb-e-Islami. The meeting took place as part of the United Nations support to the Afghan government’s efforts to engage all those interested in establishing equitable peace.
