North Waziristan IDPs Protested Suspension of Repatriation Process
Scores of elders of the Dande Darpakhel tribe of North Waziristan Agency (NWA) staged sit-ins in Peshawar and Bannu to protest against the suspension of the rehabilitation process. They alleged that all the displaced families except Dande Darpakhel tribe were repatriated to their respective areas during the repatriation process. The Foreign Office (FO) cautioned Tehran that a warning issued by the Iranian Army Chief a day earlier was against the “spirit of brotherly relations” between Pakistan and Iran. Survey of Two Border Villages Continues
Qilla Abdullah: Officials of Pakistan and Afghanistan continued the geographical survey of villages located on the two countries` border near Chaman in the presence of military troops from both sides on the second consecutive day. However, there are reports that the Afghan officials, who had earlier agreed in a flag meeting held between military officials of the two countries that they would consider and consult Google maps in the survey of the border villages, have now declined to use these maps. India Petitions ICJ for Stay in Jadhav’s Death Sentence
India has moved the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to stay the death sentence handed to self-confessed Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav by a military court in Pakistan. According to a statement issued by ICJ, India filed a petition with the court urging it to suspend Jadhav’s sentence and declare that it was arrived at “in brazen defiance of Vienna Convention rights.” The petition states that Delhi was not informed of Jadhav’s detention until long after his arrest and that Pakistan failed to inform the Indian spy of his rights. Passport Rule at Torkham Relaxed
Khyber Agency: Over 100 Pakistanis holding only computerized national identity cards (CNICs) availed of a rare opportunity to cross over to Pakistan from Afghanistan as authorities had relaxed the rule of passport for a day at the Torkham border. Sources said that the authorities had received requests from the relatives of a number of Pakistanis stranded in Afghanistan following imposition of passport condition for the cross-border movement on April 15.
