Tribesman Dies in IED Explosion in Central Kurram
Kurram Agency: A tribesman died as a result of an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion in Central Kurram Agency. Shafiullah tried to pick an IED placed by unknown miscreants on a roadside, which suddenly exploded leaving him critically wounded. Later, the injured succumbed to injuries. Radio TNN
Man Gunned Down in Pindi
Rawalpindi: A man was gunned down by two unidentified motorcycle riders near the Holy Family Hospital (HFH). Waqas Ahmed, who operated a private taxi, received a phone call from a passenger and left for Block E in Satellite Town to pick him up. When he reached near HFH, he was intercepted by two motorcyclists who pulled him out and fired shots at him, killing him on the spot. Dawn
Nine Suspects Held in a Search Operation
Islamabad: Tarnol police conducted a search operation in their jurisdiction and nabbed nine suspects. Rangers and other security agencies also participated in the operation along with women commandos and staff of the Bomb Disposal Squad. Over 50 Afghan Troops Killed, Five Check Posts Destroyed
Quetta: The army said that it had killed more than 50 Afghan soldiers during a clash on the Chaman border crossing two days ago. Ex-PM Asks Government to Merge Fata in KP
Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, former Prime Minister, has asked the federal government to immediately merge Fata with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The former premier said that Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) has given identity to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by renaming the province, adding that had they been in power, they would have merged FATA in KP. PM Approves Introduction of Tribal Areas Riwaj Bill: Zahid Hamid
Zahid Hamid, Minister for Law and Justice, said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has approved the introduction of Tribal Areas Rewaj Bill, which has been finalized in line with the wishes of the people of FATA. He further said that the proposed law would give full protection to the traditions of the tribal people as well as bring them in the national mainstream by introducing normal system. Pashto Culture Day Observed in Bajaur
A colorful event was organized in the Jirga Hall of the Civil Colony to commemorate Pashto cultural day. Noted literary figures Israr Atal, Muhammad Aslam Salik and others highlighted different aspects of Pakhtun culture and recited their poetry. Fourth Phase of Survey of Damaged Houses in South Waziristan to Begin
The fourth phase of survey of damaged houses during operation Rah-e-Nijat will begin on May 8 (today). Survey of damaged houses in 65 villages of Ladha, Makeen, Sarwakai and Srarogha tehsils will be conducted during the fourth phase. After completion of survey, the owners of completely damaged houses will get Rs. 400,000 compensation, while owners of partially damaged houses will get Rs160,000 each. Radio TNN
TDPs Threatened to Protest
TDPs from North Waziristan Agency threatened to protest if reconstruction of their damaged houses was not started in the post-conflict period. People belonging to MadaKhel, Machaas, Sedgei, Shawal, and Dande made a demand from government to start reconstruction of their homes and early repatriation into their homes; otherwise, they would be compelled to start protest.
