LAHORE: The law-enforcement agencies have taken into custody 31 suspects during search and combing operations launched in the provincial capital in the wake of the international cricket matches being hosted at Gaddafi Stadium. Jirga Reaches Afghanistan For Release Of 17 People Kidnapped From Landikotal
LANDIKOTAL: A seven-member tribal Jirga has reached Afghanistan to hold negotiations with the kidnappers to release 17 persons kidnapped from Landikotal, Khyber Agency. The Jirga members will first determine the people or group behind the kidnapping and then hold negotiations with them for their safe release. The Jirga members got formal permission from the government officials before travelling to Afghanistan. Radio TNN

US Asked To Condition Afghanistan’s Aid To Recognition Of Durand Line
WASHINGTON: A US lawmaker told House Subcommittee on Foreign Affairs on condition its aid to Afghanistan on the recognition of the Durand Line as Kabul’s refusal to recognise it unsettles Pakistan. This apparently is the first time a lawmaker, California Democrat Brad Sherman, has suggested conditioning US aid to Afghanistan to the recognition of Durand Line.
