The wife of a Frontier Corps soldier and their three children were killed when a mortar shell hit their house in Akakhail area adjacent to Khyber Agency on Sunday morning.The family members of Doulat Mir were asleep when the shell fired from an unknown place hit the house. Mir was injured. Those killed were identified as Syed Umar (6), Hamida (3), one-year-old Nadia and their mother Mahjabeen. Police and officials of the political administration said they knew nothing about the incident because it had taken place outside of their jurisdiction. Dawn.
A tribal elder was killed and his brother received critical injuries in a remote controlled blast in Tirah valley of Khyber Agency on Saturday. Sources said that a jirga of Kamarkhel tribe was in progress in Takhtaki village when an explosive device concealed in a sack exploded. Tribal elder Rasheed Khan, who was also head of a local peace committee, was killed while his younger brother was critically wounded in the blast, they added.Meanwhile, members of banned militant organisation Lashkar-i-Islam torched at least three houses of Zakhakhel elders and two shops in Matray area of Bazaar Zakhakhel. Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Barrister Masood Kausar said private sector should be encouraged to start small energy projects regarding solar energy in FATA as there are great opportunities for private investors to invest in energy sector in tribal areas.This he said in a meeting with a delegation led by MNA Hameed-ullah Jan Afridi and Senator Engineer Rasheed at Governor’s house Peshawar. The Governor said we are keenly interested in solar energy besides hydel energy projects in FATA and said that the Federal Government should also take initiative to enrich FATA with energy resources. Two men died while several link roads and other infrastructure were badly affected due to the torrential rains and floods in various areas of Barang tehsil of Bajaur Agency on Sunday, local source said. “The unprecedented rains, which started late Saturday night, continued till Sunday morning and affected most parts of the area,” said villager Bakht Rawan.“The flood washed away Jannat Khan and Fayyaz Gul, hailing from Koot area of Malakand Agency while they were fishing in a river,” said an official of the Bajaur Levies.
