PESHAWAR: The office of Political Agent Khyber Agency came under militant attack killing at least seven persons while APA Khyber Agency sustained serious wounds here on Monday at Peshawar, FRC Field Reporter learnt. According to details two suicide bombers entered into the office of political agent of Khyber Agency Mukhtiar Zeb and opened indiscriminate firing. The attack came at a moment when a Jirga of tribal elders was going on. The militants blew themselves up inside the PA house once they were surrounded by the security personnel. One of the militants blew himself near the office of APA Mumtaz Ahmad, as a result the roof of his office collapsed and he sustained serious injuries. He was shifted to CMH Peshawar for medical treatment. A total of seven persons were killed including five security personnel and two civilians. LANDIKOTAL: Two trucks laden with NATO military equipments and vehicles came under terrorist attack on Landi Kotal bypass on the Mondays’ evening killing at least two drivers while injuring another, FRC Field Reporter learnt. According to details, Afghanistan bound trucks came under indiscriminate firing of the terrorists on the Landi Kotal bypass. As a result two drivers were killed on the spot while one was injured. The injured was rushed to a hospital in Landi kotal for first aid and is stated to be in stable condition. The wind glasses of the vehicles smashed completely in the incident. The deceased included Ameen Syed son of Mir Syed and M. Daud son of Waheed Ullah. The former belonged to Jamrud tehsil of Khyber Agency while the latter to Mohmand Agency. FRC, The News.
ISLAMABAD: The government on Monday formally awarded a multi-billion dollar contract for construction and operation of Gwadar Port to China with the hope that the port`s development would open up new vistas of progress in Pakistan, particularly Balochistan. Under the contract, the port which will remain the property of Pakistan will be operated by the state-run Chinese firm China Overseas Port Holding Company (COPHC). Earlier, the contract was given to the Port of Singapore Authority (PSA). The contract signing ceremony held in the Presidency was attended by PresidentAsif Ali Zardari, Chinese Ambassador Liu Jian, some federal ministers, members of parliament and senior government officials. `The ceremony was actually held to mark the transfer of the concession agreement from the PSA (Port ofSingapore Authority) to the COPHC,` said the president`s spokesman Farhatullah Babar. PESHAWAR: Majority of district education officers and headmasters of government schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been providing the provincial Elementary and Secondary Education (E&SE) Department with exaggerated information to hide their inefficiency and get more funds, officials said. The education department officials, who requested anonymity, said that officers in districts had been indulging in filing wrong information and data to the department`s secretariat, to hide the truth about declining standard of education. In their annual data collection report, the district education offices and headmasters depict good picture of the schools for two reasons; first to get more funds being given in proportion to the number of enrolled students in a school and second to hide their poor performance and dropout of students. ORAKZAI AGENCY: Six militants were killed and two others injured when jet planes pounded militant hideouts in Orakzai Agency on Monday, security officials said. They said the airstrikes killed six militants and wounded two others in Arghanjo area, besides destroying three militant hideouts. Jet fighters planes have been targeting militant positions in Mamomzai area of the tribal agency, where militants are still in influence. Nevertheless, the bombardments have forced local people to shift to downtowns. The Nation.

SWABI: Unidentified motorcyclists shot dead a head constable of the Special Brach in the limits of Zaida Police Station here on Monday, the police sources said.The sources said that Arshad Iqbal was heading to office on his motorbike when the attackers sprayed him with bullets at Akakhel in Gar village, killing him on the spot. Several personnel of the Special Branch and Intelligence Bureau were killed in Swabi over the last few months. The News.
PESHAWAR: Afghan intelligence officials on Monday claimed to have arrested the former second-in-command of the TTP, Maulvi Faqir, along with “four accomplices” while he was trying to enter Pakistan’s Tirah Valley from Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province. “Maulvi Faqir and his four accomplices who had entered Nangarhar from Bajaur Agency were apprehended near Basawal on Torkham Road near the border of Khyber Agency’s Tirah Valley,” an Afghan intelligence official said on condition of anonymity. PESHAWAR: Five people were injured in a planted Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion in Mughal Market situated at Baksho Bridge on Monday. The incident occurred around 7pm when unidentified miscreants placed an IED near CDs shops, resultantly, four people were injured and two CDs shops were blown up. The injured were shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital. The said area was located approximately 12 km north from Cantonment area. The Frontier Post.

WANA: Army impounded ZangGanna and Sanga areas of the Shakai tehsil, in South Waziristan Agency, with heavy artillery on the night between Monday and Tuesday, FRC Field Reporter told. The firing started around 9pm and continued till 11pm. It was uncertain to find the number of casualties and injuries due to security reasons as the area has been cordoned off by the local Taliban after the incident. An official of Wana Political administration, Abdul Samad, confirmed to our reporter that a clash between Taliban and the security forces held last night in the Shakai area but the number of casualties could not be ascertained.
