BAJAUR AGENCY, August 18: Unidentified gunmen shot dead a pro-government tribal elder and member of Mamond peace committee in Damadola area of Mamond tehsil of Bajaur here on Sunday night.
Officials of the administration and residents of the areas said that Ajab Khan son of Mohammad jan a member of local peace committee was on his way to home when unidentified armed men opened fire on him with automatic weapons. As a result he was wounded seriously and taken to agency head quarter hospital Khar where he died.
People of the area immediately reached the spot but the attackers had managed to escape from the scene. Later, officials and personnel of Bajaur levies also reached the site and launched search operation to trace the attackers but no one have been arrested so for.
No one has so for claimed responsibility for the killing.
Meanwhile women vaccinators will not take part in the upcoming three-day polio campaign in Bajaur Agency for security reasons, according to local agency surgeon Dr Zakir Hussain.
“Only men will vaccinate children against polio in the agency during the three campaign beginning on Monday (Aug 19),” Dr Zakir told FRC.
The agency surgeon said around 223,680 children would be vaccinated against polio during the campaign. He said the local health deportment had finalized arrangements for the campaign with the support of local administration.
Dr Zakir said 628 teams had been formed for the campaign during which polio drops would be administered to 223,680 children of and under five years.
Dr Zakir said efforts were also underway to reduce the cases of vaccination refusal and missed cases.
