BAJAUR AGENCY, Oct 29: Two children died and several others are suffering from severe state of measles as the disease burst forth in tehsil Barang and in other areas of Bajaur agency, due to unavailability of anti measles vaccines in Bajaur Agency.
Locals of the area told to FRC reporter, the disease has hit the far-flung village of Sar Lara, 32 kilometer from the agency head quarter Khar where two children died while many others became a victim of measles as the disease is spreading speedily in the area due to lack of health facilities in the region.
Bakhat Rawan a local of the area told FRC, the victims were identified as 10-year-old Sohil Khan and 5-year-old Aisha. The locals demanded from the administration and the local health department to send vaccination teams otherwise the situation may be become more alarming if immediate step would not be taken.
Dr Zakir Hussian (Agency surgeon) has confirmed the measles outbreak in the area and said that two children died and at least six others affected in Sar lara area of tehsil Barang.
While talking to FRC reporter he said that, several teams including vaccinators and paramedics along with medicines have been sent to the affected area to vaccinate the children who are suffering from the measles.
“We are aware of the situation and the teams have started its job to provide health services to the affected while the conditions of the children suffering from the measles outbreak are out of danger,” he added.
Moreover, Dr Zakir Hussian told the health department will soon launch anti-measles immunization campaign across the agency and all arrangements have been finalized in this connection.
