MIRANSHAH, August 28: Waziristan Grand Peace Jirga was held in Miranshah on Monday with the aim to remove escalating anxiety among the people prompted by rumor for military operation in North Waziristan Agency (NWA).
Political Agent Siraj Ahmad Khan assured to the Jirga members that government had no plan for military operation in the agency while asserting further that government would continue its efforts to establish peace.
Local leaders assured their cooperation with government for restoration of peace in the region. Head of the Jirga, Malik Jan Faraz Wazir said that people of the area would maintain support government peace initiatives.
The Grand Peace Jirga was headed by local Malik Jan Faraz Wazir while Political Agent (PA) of NWA Siraj Ahmad Khan, local leaders (Masharaan) like Malik Jan Faraz Wazir, Malik Rais Khan, Malik Sarfaraz Khan, Molana Ahmadullah and many other participated to discuss current security and peace situation.
Independent sources said that people of the area are highly concern for expected military operation in the area. A few families from Miranshah having affordability for accommodation in settled areas have individually migrated.
The imposition of curfew after Eid on Bannu road Meramshah increased the anxiety among the people and fifty to hundred families have reported been shifted to Bannu.
It is expected that population living along with Afghan border would migrate to Afghanistan while most of the people would shift to settled areas in Pakistan in case of military operation in NWA.
