BAJAUR AGENCY Feb 8: The Political Administration Bajaur Agency finalized its arrangements for a three days anti polio-campaign in the agency, starting from Monday (today), wherein around 223,900 children would be administered oral polio vaccines across the agency, FRC learnt.
In this connection an inaugural ceremony was held here on Saturday in Khar that was chaired by Bajaur Agency Political Agent Syed Abdul Jabar Shah and attended by senior officials of the administration, health department, representatives of world health organization, tribal elders and social activists.
Speaking at the occasion, Syed Abdul Jabar Shah said that administration is struggling to purge polio infection in the agency and all possible means are being used for the early eliminating of polio virus from the region.
He asked the tribal elders and religious scholars to extend their support to the vaccination campaign to make it a success as joint efforts and team sprit are essential for the elimination of this menace.
“Support of the local community especially of tribal elders and religious leaders are imperative for eradicating polio from the agency”, Mr. Shah said.
Mr. Shah assured the polio workers of fool proof security arrangements during the campaign, “the security of polio workers and officials are the responsibility of the administration and all possible means will be used for this purpose, he added.
In the meanwhile Bajaur levies force on Saturday defused an improvised explosive device planted by unidentified terrorists in a busy Inayat Killi Bazaar of Bajaur Agency, officials of the political administration said.
According to the officials, the personnel of Bajaur levies force foiled a bid to explode shops in a busy Inayat Killi Bazzar, 8 Km away from the agency head quarter Khar. The officials said that the bomb had been planted on the roof top of a shop. The official said that personnel of bomb disposal unit of Bajaur levies force immediately rushed to the site on the tip off and defused the bomb safely.
