BAJAUR AGENCY, August 8: Two senior pro- government tribal elders were killed while two others received serious injuries in two separate incidents in the Bajaur tribal region on Tuesday, locals and officials of the administration said.
The first incident took place in the Shah Khani area of Nawagi tehsil on Monday night where unidentified armed persons shot dead two pro-government elders Malik Khan Mohammad and Malik Islam Khan.
Both the elders were at their home when the armed men attacked them with automatic weapons, adding that both were died on the spot.
Residents of the area said that locals and volunteers of the local peace committee rushed to the sit soon after the incident, and the wounded were taken to the nearby hospital for treatment but both were succumbed to injuries on their way to hospital.
Dozens of locals including members of peace Lashkar immediately reached to the spot but the attackers escaped safely form the site, Izhar Khan a member of Charmang Peace committee told FRC.
Locals said that both the deceased tribesmen were the pro-government and they had played vital role against militants in the area. “Both have no personal enmity however they were threatened by unidentified persons for the last several months, locals of the area told this correspondent.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack but locals of the area and members of the peace committee said that militants could be responsible for the attack.
The local administration has started investigation of the incident and several people in the areas have been arrested in the search operation.
Meanwhile a senior member of Mamond peace committee Malik Najibullah Khan and his guard got serious wounded when a road side remote bomb planted by unidentified militants went off in the border area of Gardi Bagh of tehsil Mamond on Tuesday morning.
Witness said that Malik Najeebullah Khan was going to Khar in his private car along with his guard when a road side remote control bomb (IED) exploded with a power full blast. Motor car was partially damaged in the blast while the local administration has started investigation of the incident.
