The year 2013 witnessed a total of 1673 killings and 1199 injuries that resulted in total of 374 terrorism related incidents throughout the tribal belt. The area witnessed the incidents in all shapes including bomb blasts, operational attacks, suicide attacks, clashes between militant groups and the military, kidnappings, and the target killings. However the most common incident in all quarters of the year remained Bomb blasts in which mostly tribal elders were targeted. It is pertinent to mention here that the elders who were targeted were somehow associated to the restoration of peace in their areas.
Bomb Blasts and target killings were the main trends found during the period of study, however, military operations, peace committees and drone attacks were some other trends making headlines during the whole period. Similarly talks of Peace process (peace talks) with insurgents also made rounds during the year.
