Ghalanai, February 15, 2017: A terror attack at Political Administration office in Ghalanai tehsil of Mohmand agency was foiled by Levies forces. According to ISPR, two suicide bombers tried to enter the Political Administration office located at a housing colony in headquarters of the agency. However, none were successful in infiltrating the office and both the attackers were intercepted by Levies personnel at the main gate of the colony.
According to local administration official, one of the suicide bombers started firing on security personnel at the gate before he was killed by sentries deployed at the gate. The other suicide attacker, when stopped by Levies personnel, denoted his jacket at the main gate of the residential colony, killing five others and wounding three others.
Three of the five martyred were Levies personnel identified as Taj Alam, Yasir, and Zar Sayed, while the remaining two were civilians including a teacher, Pazeer Gul who hailed from Charsadda district. The suicide blast also injured three civilians identified as Shahroon, Sheraz and a minor girl, who were rushed to Lady Reading hospital, Peshawar.
According to sources, the administration was on high alert after an intelligence report, containing a tip-off regarding the intrusion of two suicide bombers from Afghanistan, was received three days prior to the attack. Following the incident, a curfew has been imposed in Ghalanai tehsil, while search operations are being conducted in the headquarters and its surroundings. Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan-Jamat-ul-Ahrar have claimed responsibility for the attack.
The attack comes two days after the same group carried out a heinous attack on a peaceful protest held by chemists outside Punjab Assembly on Lahore’s Mall Road, resulting in 13 killed and more than 80 injured. Mohmand shares border with Afghanistan and is considered one of the most volatile agencies where Pakistan military has conducted numerous operations in the past decade to eradicate militants from its soil and bring out sustainable peace.
