PESHAWAR: An earthquake of moderate intensity jolted Peshawar and its adjacent areas on Tuesday. The earthquake of magnitude 4.8 on the Richter scale was felt with its epicenter 28 kilometres north of Murghob in Tajikistan reported the US Geological Survey. People rushed out of their homes and offices in panic as the earthquake tremors struck. Earlier, an earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale with its epicenter shook 137 kilometers north west of Karachi on Monday, December 23 evening. PESHAWAR: Anti polio campaign in North and South Waziristan Agencies and Federal Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) could not be carried out during last two years due to security concerns, increasing fear of spread of polio virus to the children. FATA secretariat on Tuesday said anti polio drive in North and South Waziristan Agencies could not be launched due to security concerns and as such as many as 169,000 children in SWA and 166,000 in NWA have been deprived from administrating polio drops. At least 39,000 children have also been deprived of polio drops in Khyber Agency. The FATA secretariat said that many children have been confirmed polio virus so far and it is feared that the virus would spread in the future if the anti-polio drive did not start in the areas.
