MIRAMSHAH: Two missiles were fired by a US drone at a place near Miramshah in North Waziristan Agency on Thursday night. According to local sources, unmanned US spy plane fired two missiles at a house located in Chashma area of Miranshah, the tribal headquarters of North Waziristan Agency (NWA). PESHAWAR: The National Institute of Health, Islamabad on Thursday found four more children from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas to be polio cases. Of these cases, three were reported in North Waziristan Agency and one in Khyber Agency. PESHAWAR: The workers of ruling parties in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continued to block supplies to Nato forces in Afghanistan on Thursday and vowed to carry on their protest till end to US drone attacks in tribal and settled areas of Pakistan. Prof Ibrahim, the provincial chief of Jamaat-i-Islami, a coalition partner in the provincial government, visited the protest camp in Hayatabad Township and asked the federal government to consider the drone strike in Hangu an attack on Islamabad and order halting of Nato supplies forthwith. PESHAWAR: Bomb Disposal Squad foiled a terror bid after defusing two remote control devices carrying 18 kg explosives in Sarband on Thursday. Police said that they received information that unidentified miscreants planted remote control device on roadside targeting police van, however, after the information cops instantly called BDS officials who successfully defused the bombs. PESHAWAR: A Pre-Development Budget 2014, 15 consultation session for real stakeholders of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) was held on Thursday under the aegis of Planning and Development Department FATA Secretariat in Peshawar aimed to approve the forthcoming budget in the lights of recommendations of tribal people. Representatives from different walks of life including students, tribal elders, and parliamentarians, officials of various departments of FATA, youth and media persons attended the session. Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) FATA Arbab Muhammad Arif while welcoming the participants said that the event was meant to have a shared understanding on the development of FATA. PESHAWAR: Ten missing persons have been shifted to internment centres across Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P). This was learnt by the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday while hearing petitions of 279 missing persons from K-P and the tribal areas. A two-member PHC bench comprising Justice Mian Fasilul Mulk and Justice Ikramullah Khan was informed the federal taskforce for missing persons report would be presented in court within two to three days. PESHAWAR:The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has renamed Directorate of Counter Terrorism (DCT) of Police Department as Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The CTD will be having the mandate of Intelligence collection, surveillance and monitoring, registration of terrorism cases, investigation of ATA cases, arrest and detentions and research and analysis. The strength of the Directorate of Counter Terrorism has been merged into Counter Terrorism Department and the sanctioned strength of CTD will be DIG-1, SP-12, DSPI-43, Inspector 153, SI-289, ASI-249, HC-314, FC-1170, Diver-119 (Total-2350).
For operational purposes, seven CTD police stations (one at CCP and one each at six Regional HQrs), will function. These police stations will also work as detention centres. Till the new police stations are constructed, Inspector General of Police Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will declare existing police buildings in CCP and different regions of function as CTD Police stations.
