Two drivers of trucks, which were loaded with scrap, were killed by unidentified assailants in Angoor Adda area of South Waziristan Agency (SWA) late on Saturday. Sources said that the drivers, Waliur Rehman and Rasool Muhammad, were driving their trucks towards Wana, SWA, from Angoor Adda when unidentified armed men ambushed the trucks and indiscriminately fired at them. Resultantly, both the drivers were killed on the spot. Locals of the area expressed anger over the killing of the drivers. They said that such incidents of killing innocent tribesmen were rampant in the lawless area. Daily Times, The Frontier Post.
The locals of Landikotal have accused the officials appointed at Jamrud and Karkhano checkposts of seeking bribe. They said that food items and ice blocks were stopped at the checkposts until bribe was given to them. However, Jamrud Assistant Political Agent (APA) Bakhtyar Khan Mohmand assured that any official of Khasadar Force or local police who stopped food items and ice blocks to Landikotal via Jamrud would be sacked. There was no ban on transportation of any food item or ice blocks, he added. Daily Times.
A tribal volunteer and two militants were killed in a clash in Akakhel area in Khyber Agency on Sunday, tribal sources said. The sources saidthat the militants of Lashkar-e-Islam were trying to kidnap a peace committee member, Aya Gul from his house in Akakhel area in Bara tehsil when the tribal volunteers reached there and opened fire on the militants. Two militants identified as Gulshan and Abdul Malik were killed in the firing and Tariq sustained injuries. The sources said that Aya Gul was also killed in the cross-fire. The News, Dawn.
A remote bomb exploded in Khyber Agency, killing a militant commander among five other insurgents. According to the government sources, the bomb was planted on the roadside in Akkakhel area of Tehsil Bara. The explosion occurred when banned outfit Lashkar e Islam’s commander Syed Rehman along with his associates were patrolling in the area.Security forces has put the security cordon in the area and launched search operation. The commander-in-chief of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Hakimullah Mehsud has warned that the Taliban has extended guerilla war to the settled areas of the country and are close to striking fresh targets. As per Indian News Website, Mehsud’s message appeared on Al-Jihad media asking fellow militants to be united and not to indulge in activities that could create rifts amongst the mujahideen. He has also asked the Muslims Ummah to pray in the holy month of Ramadan for the mujahideen who are fighting against the infidel forces all around the world.”The mujahideen have started guerilla wars in the settled areas of the country like Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi and Peshawar. The interior ministry has declared some 2000 passports of the individuals from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and tribal areas doubtful and ordered inquiry in the matter. According to the sources, federal government has declared 700 passports issued from m different districts of KP and some 1300 passports from the tribal belt doubtful and ordered law enforcing agencies to investigate the matter. The Political Administration of South Waziristan Agency has not been paying attention to the only educational institution for female students, Government Girls Degree College Wana which is lying virtually closed because of lack of female teachers. Tribesmen talking to INP said that Government Girls Degree College Wana is the only ray of hope to educate the female students of the tribal region being labeled by the media as hub of the militants led by Commander Maulvi Nazir, adding that concerned authorities were not paying attention to equip the college with required staff and other facilities. Three years after launching Rah-i-Nijat military operation in Mehsud area of South Waziristan Agency, the government has de-notified only one out of six subdivisions as conflict zone in the volatile region since October 2009. Only Sararogha subdivision has been declared as `cleared` and the internally displaced persons from the area are allowed to go back to their homes, ` said an official. He said that the remaining five tehsils including Shawal, Sarwakai, Tairza, Makeen and Laddha had not been cleared so far.`Return programme of IDPs to other areas would be started as and when the military gives green signal in this regard,` he said. The army had launched operation Rahi-Nijat (path of salvation) in 2009 to destroy strongholds of banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Mehsud area and re-establish government`s writ there. Dawn.
Jamaat-i-Islami, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter, on Sunday rejected the Local Government Regulations 2012, saying the regulations give huge powers to the political administration instead of empowering tribal people and their elected representatives. The JI held the bureaucracy responsible for destroying the local government system in the settled areas. The concern was voiced at a meeting chaired by naib amir Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mushtaq Ahmed Khan. The meeting was also attended by JI leadership from tribal areas, according to a press release. Gunmen on Monday killed a driver of a NATO supply truck in the Khyber district on the Afghan border; officials said.It was the second fatal shooting in two weeks in the Jamrud area in Khyber district, where Taliban and local militia are active.
