Miranshah, Jan 29, 2015: A US drone fired at least two missiles in Shawal tehsil of the restive North Waziristan Agency here on Wednesday, targeting a moving vehicle, killing at least six militants, FRC learnt.
The attack was confirmed by the political administration of the agency.
Among the killed, political administration officials with the condition of anonymity told FRC, three were Uzbek origin while the remaining three were local militants.
It was the fourth attack of the current month being carried out by US unmanned aerial vehicle in Pakistan’s tribal belt.
Out of the total four, three have taken place in North Waziristan Agency while one occurred in Ladha tehsil of South Waziristan Agency.
Shawal tehsil is the far flung tehsil of North Waziristan Agency and is densely populated by forests. Some portion of the tehsil has also been shared by South Waziristan Agency.
The area got media attention in the recent past, after the launch of military operation Zarb-e-Azb in June 2014, and was said that militants have been taking refuge in Shawal mountainous areas after being ousted by military from Miranshah and Mirali tehsils of the agency.
The security forces of Pakistan have been targeting the hideouts of all militants thereby inflicting huge human and material losses to them. However the area is out of bound for the local journalists and hence the toll of casualties can’t be verified from independent sources.
