Peshawar, Feb 10: At least four women were killed and five others including women and children sustained injuries in a suicide blast that occurred in Jamil Chock, Chamkani area district Peshawar here on Monday.
Police officials said that the target of the suicide bomber was a funeral procession in village Esa Khan Garhi, in the jurisdiction of Chamkanai Police Station.
The injured were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital whereas the law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area and arrested two suspected persons during search operation.
According to details and police officials a suicide bomber was on the way to target a funeral session in Esa Khan Garhi of Chamkanai area when few locals suspected him and tried to catch him before completing his task.
DSP chamkanai told FRC that as per initial reports a funeral session in the area was the target of the suicide bomber but that was made unsuccessful by the local residents of the area.
He further said that by sensing danger the bomber blew him near a house where Quran Khwani was going resultantly killing four women in the house and leaving five others including children were injured.
The injured and dead bodies were then shifted to Lady Reading Hospital by rescue workers and local people whereas the security personnel’s launched search operation in the area and arrested two suspects from the site.
AIG BDU Shafqat Malik said that the bomber hurled a hand grenade and then blew him adding that up to six kg explosives was used in the blast.
