BAJAUR AGENCY, Oct 23: Several rockets were fired from Afghanistan that landed in border area in tehsil Mamond of Bajaur Agency here on Tuesday, however, no causalities were reported, FRC learnt.
According to details at least seven rockets were fired from across the border in Afghanistan in which three landed in Sarkai, the border village of Tehsil Mamond located around 36 kilometers from Agency headquarters Khar.
A senior official of the local administration has confirmed the attack in the border area and said that militants living inside Kunar province of Afghanistan could be behind the attack.
“Though we are investigating the attack but militants living in neighboring Afghanistan could be responsible for it because they were involved in such activities in the past also”, he added.
The official said that security forces and volunteers of village defence committee in the area responded in retaliation through firing soon after the attack.
This was the second repeated attack in the border area of Agency from Afghanistan side in the past couple of days. On Monday, two children were injured when militants firing from across the border in Sapary area of tehsil Mamond.
Meanwhile the tribal elders of Mamond tribe have expressed concern over these attacks in tehsil Mamond and threatened to retaliate if such attacks continued.
They demanded of the Afghan government to take serious notice of the cross border attacks in Bajaur Agency otherwise the tribesmen of the agency would be compelled to target the hide outs of the militants inside the Afghanistan territory.
