Uruzgan: At least 24 insurgents were killed in an operation in southern Uruzgan province. The operation was launched against the sleeping cells of militants in various villages. Paktika Deputy Intelligence Chief Killed in Taliban Militants Attack
Paktika: A top intelligence official in eastern Paktika province has been killed in ambush of the Taliban insurgents. According to Provincial police chief, General Khalil Zeyayi, the deputy intelligence, National Directorate of Security, Chief General Abdul Wahab was killed during clashes with the Taliban in southeastern Ghazni province. Ghor: At least three Taliban insurgents were killed and four others were wounded in a premature explosion in northwestern Ghor province of Afghanistan. Nangarhar: At least twenty seven militants affiliated with the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group were killed during the clearance operations and airstrikes in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan. The operations were conducted in the vicinity of Achin district. Khost: The Afghan security forces have arrested a suicide bomber and confiscated a Vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) in southeastern Khost province of Afghanistan. According to Abdul Hai Zazai, the district administrative chief of Bak, the suicide bomber attempted to detonate the car bomb but failed in his attempt which resulted into minor injuries in his legs. Afghanistan Listed as a Disaster-Prone Country: IFRC
The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) released its annual report on natural disasters for 2016 and placed Afghanistan among those countries most frequently hit by such events. The report stated that more than 674 natural disasters were recorded around the world in 2016 and 100 of these occurred in Afghanistan alone. According to Mohammad Naeem Dindar, secretary general of IFRC, “Afghanistan is in a complicated situation right now; aside from the effects of climate change at a global level, what adds to the complexity of the issue is conflict, poverty, unemployment, a weak economy and above all it is one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world”. Afghanistan and Australia to Sign Key Agreements during Ghani’s Visit
The Afghan and Australian officials are expected to sign key agreements as President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani is expected to hold talks with the country’s officials.
